Things You Need to Know About Plotter Printers

plotter printers

Plotter printers are very different from traditional printers. They are mainly used in the architectural, engineering, constructional fields because of their expertise in producing high-quality blueprints. Mechanism of plotter printers is also different from a regular printer because of which the major mapping of the world uses this old technique that is vintage yet modernized.

How do Plotter Printers’ work?

Plotter printers use an actual pen to create the lines. It produces small microdots are placed in regular and alternative distance from each other that nobody can detect that behind a fine line, there is a series of patterns. In everyday printers, instead of regular pen laser or electromagnetic technology is used for the considerably larger dots.

Plotters are usually drawn with the help of computers. They are formed by using special programs. Additionally, plotters are used by many advertising companies and even small architectural designers.

Type of plotter printers

There are two main types of plotter printers. They are categorized based on the movement of the pen and the drum. Whichever method you use they both are efficient in producing high-quality images with an impressive ink.

You will be surprised to know that they are both inexpensive methods that produce the desired images with the right dimensions and sharp edges. It is safe to say that each process is meant to win your projects over!

  • Drum Plotters

Drum plotters are also called roller plotter and as suggested by the name the roller and drum both rotate to produce the image. This method produces graphics that has a top-quality resolution. A paper is inserted in the drum which rotates under a pen that is moving back and forth. Both functions work efficiently to form the final project. The cell is controlled by the robotics arm that does the eye-catching job of drawing.

  • Flatbed Plotters

Just like drum plotter, flatbed plotters are also called table plotters. They are named after flatbed because there is a flat board table on which the paper is fixed. Instead of one, there are two robotic arms, each holding a respective pen for the use. The arms move and draw a magical and precise image that does not fail its settings!

Advantages of Plotter Printers

Introduction of laser and inkjet printers may have decreased the use of plotter printer, but they have failed to overcome it. The extensive use of plotter printers can be attributed to their successful drawing and multiple adaptations. There is more than one thing that can be changed, but the Plotters are built to work through each change!

  • Large paper

The biggest advantage of using plotters is that they can draw graphics of varied size on a large blueprint paper. The paper size can extend to 75cm or 2 feet. That is unlikely in the traditional printers.

  • Use of different inks

All plotters are adaptable to the use of more than one ink. It depends on the rotating pens in the printer, but you can use contrasting colors to print a meaningful drawing. The ink can be refilled and changed without any drawbacks or error.

  • Materials

The plotter can draw on a variety of papers. It can range from soft to rigid sheets. Materials include plywood, aluminum, and sheet, plastic and cardboard. There is the same efficient result for both uneven and flat sheets. Plotters are designed to overcome the dips so that the lines are continues without sudden disfiguring of shapes.

  • Memory

Once a plotter draws an image, it is saved in the printer’s memory. You can select that graphic and reproduce it many times. There is no such fear of loading the photos all over again. The memory is reliable and strong. The pattern of setting and the templates, themes also remain the usual standard style. If you want to change it, then you might have to interfere. Other than that, plotter prints dozens of images smoothly at one time.
